As the weather gets warmer, you may want to spend more time in the sun with your pooch. Why not have fun and get some great exercise together? Run, don’t walk, to these pawesome dog-friendly 5K events in June.
1. H.A.L.T. Rescue’s 3rd Annual 10k & 5k Fun Walk/Run – Bakersfield, Calif., Saturday, June 2
This is the third annual dog-friendly run/walk in Bakersfield, and know that they give 100 percent of the proceeds to Helping Animals Live Tomorrow Rescue (HALT). If you bring a bag of dog food for the Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry, you will get a free ticket for their opportunity drawing. The first 275 participants to register will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag as well. You can still register for this event for a late fee of $25, or register on the day of the race.
2. The Fast & the Furriest – Rochester, N.Y., Saturday, June 9
This fundraiser to benefit the Animal Services Center will also feature a pet festival with live music, food vendors and a variety of activities for you and your pooch. You and your furry pal can enter several dog-friendly contests such as “Hot Dog Bobbing” or the “Owner Look Alike” for just $2 per entry.
3. Dog Day 5k – Waconia, Minn., Saturday, June 9
This timed 5K hosted by Pro Plan is enjoying its third year. According to the site, “This is a celebration of fitness, fun and ‘Fido;” whether you walk it or jog it, with a dog or without, this event is nothing but fun.” You can register to run for $35 through June 5, so act fast – otherwise, registration is $40 on the race day. Proud pooch parents can upload photos of their dogs in action on the event’s Facebook page.
